Product FAQs

Can you tell me the difference between candles and wax melts?

A wax melt provides a stronger scent throw due to the nature of how it melts. This is because the wax acts a carrier to the fragrance, when melted it allows the fragrance to be heated and 'throw' the scent.

In contrast, a candle is fuelled via the wick, using a combination of the wax and fragrance oil to produce the scent throw.

Which one would work best for me?

We recommend using scented candles to add ambience and a gentle aroma throughout a small-medium sized room. Candles are ideal for intimate dinner parties, snug sitting rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms.

If you're looking for a strong scent throw to instantly fill an entire space, we would recommend a wax melt.

Where are your candles and wax melts made?

We pour, blend, wrap, and package every piece with intention and care in our garden studio in County Kerry. Nothing is mass-produced.

Are your candles and wax melts eco-friendly?

Yes! We are very proud to use sustainable ingredients and plastic-free materials from product to packaging. This makes our process more labour intensive and costly, but it is a price we are always willing to pay.

Are they vegan friendly / animal cruelty free?

Our wax melts are made from vegan-friendly and cruelty-free ingredients.

Can you tell me more about your ingredients?

We use 100% soy wax in all of our products. The soy wax we use is sourced from Europe and is certified free of GM materials. We do not use soy grown in South America.

We use both essential and high quality fragrance oils in our blends. This allows us to create a wide range of scents.

Can I get samples before ordering?

Absolutely! You can purchase individual wax melt samples to discover your favourite scents. We also include a free sample in parcels whenever we can. Drop us a note if there's a scent you didn’t order but would like to try.

Wax Melt FAQs

How do I use wax melts?

Place 1 wax melt in the dish of your wax melt burner and begin melting by placing a shallow, 4 hour tealight in the base of the burner.

Make sure to use an appropriate wax burner with minimum 6.5cm of space between flame and well.

Also suitable for use with electric burners.

How long does the scent last?

Each wax melt will provide ~10 to 12 hours of scent when melted correctly. When scent diminishes, replace with a new wax melt.

What should I do if I find the scent too strong?

Easily halve the wax melt for a more subtle scent throw, if desired.

Candle FAQs

How do I get the best burn from my soy wax candle?

To enjoy your candle safely and fully, we recommend a few simple care steps:

  1. First Burn Matters — Allow your candle to burn until the entire surface has melted to the edges of the jar. This creates a full “melt pool” and prevents tunneling, helping your candle burn evenly each time.
  2. Trim the Wick — Before every burn, trim the wick to around 5mm. A shorter wick means a steadier flame, less smoke, and a cleaner burn.
  3. Burn Times — After the first burn, we suggest enjoying your candle in shorter sessions of 2–3 hours. This gives you a long, slow, even burn without overheating the glass.
  4. Keep it Safe — Always place your candle on a heatproof surface, away from drafts, pets, and children. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  5. Finishing the Candle — Stop burning your candle when about 1cm of wax remains at the bottom of the jar. This protects the vessel from overheating.

These small rituals help your candle last longer, burn brighter, and bring more calm into your home.

Tell me about the natural nature of soy wax?

Soy wax is a natural, plant-based material made from soybeans. Unlike paraffin wax, it’s renewable, biodegradable, and cleaner burning.

Because it’s natural, no two candles will ever look exactly the same. You may notice a soft frosting on the surface or slight variations in texture as the wax cools — this is completely normal and doesn’t affect the quality or performance. In fact, it’s one of the signs your candle is made from pure soy.

Another benefit — soy wax burns more slowly and evenly than paraffin, giving you a longer-lasting candle with less soot and smoke.

We love this as a small reminder that every Drift House Studio candle is hand-poured and truly one of a kind.

What should I do if I find the scent too strong?

Easily halve the wax melt for a more subtle scent throw, if desired.

Is there anything else I should know about candle safety?

Yes. While our candles are designed for a safe and enjoyable burn, it’s important to follow standard candle safety guidelines:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Always keep away from flammable objects, curtains, and furniture.
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Always place on a heatproof, stable surface.
  • Allow the candle to cool fully before moving or relighting.

These simple precautions help protect your home and loved ones, and ensure you enjoy your Drift House Studio candles with complete peace of mind.
